Literacy

There are many parts or components to the thing we call “Literacy.”  The following activities are not listed in any special sequence as the skills overlap, and are learned, re-learned, and reinforced over & over again.  So look around and spend some time with the activities that provide just a bit of challenge for the student.  Remember, too much challenge can damage your child’s enthusiasm for learning.  Just a bit of challenge makes the child feel like a champion!  And a little failure is good for us as learners.

Update your Adobe Flash Player (I uncheck the free McAfee scan option)

Also your Java as some of these sites may use that as well.

Turn speakers on for all the audio activities.

  • This is so great! I was looking for fun semi challenging games to get my daughter started. What great choices you have given to us. Thanks!!

    • Our laptops at school have other tools that may be of interest. Build Your Wild Self, and This Is Sand are the tools I use earliest, so the class can practice using keyboards and touch pads. Kerpoof and Tux Paint are fun after the kids become more experienced. Later we move on to KidBlog. Super Hyper Spider Typer is a fun keyboarding practice game that challenges kids with good letter recognition.

      • Thank you so much for that information! She has loved what she has done so far. I love when she can learn and have fun, I feel that is the way it should always be! :)

  • I think this would be good activities for kids who are starting to learn things. I have a 4 year old son. I will try these activities with him and see how it goes.
