Welcome New Faces!

Here are some of the smiling faces who will star in this years class. I was able to speak with almost all of the children this week and it sounds like everyone is eager for the first day. Some children do not have a photo in the collage as they missed our visitation day in May for one reason or another. Don’t worry, I will be taking lots of pics this year.

Goodbye To Kindergarten 2009

It’s hard to believe that our year has come to a close. Before I made this slideshow, I looked through my pictures of the students and the change in them is absolutely amazing. My earliest pictures on file were taken when they visited our classroom to meet their teacher and classmates. That was over a year ago and they looked very young indeed. Now they are grown. They have met hundreds of new people, can find their way around the school with relative ease, and can solve problems more independently. These are my favorite lessons taught and learned. The other things come more easily once the children feel trust and safety in their own space.We bid a fond farewell to this special group of children. Together we have done amazing things. When they return to school in the fall, they will have new friends and new learning experiences but their time in kindergarten will be held dear for many years to come. Goodbye to the kindergarten class of 2009. Stop by for a visit!

Use Pause and Play Buttons

I have been working on some professional development surrounding the use of images. It is an non credit online program designed to meet the needs of educators.

This week’s assignment for Images4Education called upon us to design an online story. Mixbook was a new program for me so I thought I’d learn more about it. This is the story I created. Problems? Yes. The site would like people to create their books and then purchase a hard copy. I am always looking for the free version ;+ As a result you will find that this book autoplays at a fast speed.

You can work around this by using the pause and play buttons at the bottom of the box. This will allow more time for you and your child to read the pages at a comfortable rate. You can also move the mouse around a bit or use the slider at the bottom of the box to go back to the page you want.

Some of your children are already reading text in books and will relish the opportunity to read our own creation. The children created the text with only a little editing on my part. Comments are always welcome! You can make viewing even easier by clicking on this link
