Drum Roll Please!

Introducing a new page and it should prove to be pretty useful for children to use both in school and at home.

Tech Tools For Home and School

…is the anchor page for math and literacy practice links. We will open up our browser at school and find this page with lots of different activities to try out. Please use the links with your children at home so they can practice critical skill building while playing on-line games. Each of the links will direct you to a new site so they will perform differently. First, a couple of reminders:

  • always keep your browsers and Adobe Flash Player updated

  • turn your speakers on as many of the links are audio

  • please report any problems with the links to me

It was made into a film quite a few years ago and I was excited to find it today online to show the class while we study Native Americans.  They have asked that I share the link with you so you can watch it together at home. The children were thrilled – and so was their teacher. They did a marvelous job following directions and helping each other. We plan to include one hour of laptop exploration each week. That way we can visit a few different programs online, as well as explore installed software. This week we used the program This Is Sand. It’s fun and easy so the children found success right away. Check out a short video of the children using the program.

I have changed the posting date/time on it so it could go out to subscribers once again. Blogging presents new challenges all the time and this one was a doozy. I learned how to compress the pictures in a file before converting to pdf. In the past, my posts have converted with far greater ease but this one had 6 pages of graphics and that was too much for the usual methods.  To be on the safe side, I recommend that you update your own Adobe Reader and browsers. A couple of the links within the newsletter are no longer operational but the text or screen captures may provide the web addresses if you want to know more.

I was able to speak with almost all of the children this week and it sounds like everyone is eager for the first day. Some children do not have a photo in the collage as they missed our visitation day in May for one reason or another. Don’t worry, I will be taking lots of pics this year.
