We had our first experience with Mac laptops in the classroom today. The children were thrilled – and so was their teacher. They did a marvelous job following directions and helping each other. We plan to include one hour of laptop exploration each week. That way we can visit a few different programs online, as well as explore installed software. This week we used the program This Is Sand. It’s fun and easy so the children found success right away. Check out a short video of the children using the program.
Yeah, how exciting to have laptops in the classroom. Congratulations, I know technology can be a handful of work for the teacher, but the kids love it! Thanks for all you do for the little ones.
There’s lots to love about working with laptops in the classroom this year.
* The kids get excited to try new things
* I am finding meaningful applications
* I have tremendous support from the volunteer scheduled on that day
* I learn something new every time and that’s really cool
* I am open to the possibilities that haven’t even revealed themselves yet.
So although we only get to bring them in for less than an hour each week, it is time that’s full of potential as well as a nice change of pace. It is also helpful having one per child. I know you are using an interactive white board this year. We don’t have one but my volunteer has helped me through the projector and adapter issues. When a bug comes up (and that’s pretty common) she can figure out what needs to change. I bet this is what a Tech. Integration Specialist must do at other schools.(?)
Thanks for the comment. BTW How’s the hockey season going?
