2012 – 2013

I am Mrs. Gail Poulin and I am the teacher of 19 creative and exuberant kindergarten children. We are part of the William E. Norris School in Southampton, Massachusetts. You can subscribe to this blog and get automatic notification of new posts by clicking on the box located in the right sidebar and filling in the email Reader information requested. I receive notification of quite a few blogs through my Google Reader account. In order to more fully enjoy the graphics on this site you should make sure you have the latest version of your browser, and also an up-to-date Adobe Flash Player. I need mine updated about once a month.

This Blog…

light bulb world… is a reflection of what’s going on in our classroom from week to week. It’s main purpose is to serve as a communication tool between school and home. It’s also helpful as a way of keeping distant family members in touch with what’s going on here as well.

Other interested readers are teachers and classes from all over the world.

The blog is divided into several categories. You will find them listed in the left sidebar.  The right sidebar brings you many other links related to our school, as well as some of our interests.

Newsletters are sent home on a nearly weekly basis. You will find the latest one here and often enough there will be extra material included, as the internet presents the colors so beautifully.

Tech Tools are linked through the header of the blog. Parents are encouraged to use the games with the child at home. Most will be taught throughout the year so children will need the minimum of help once they reach the page they want to work on.

I encourage students, friends, and families to leave comments after any of the the posts in our blog. In order to leave a comment just click on or type into, the “comment” link or box after the post. It is not necessary to give any email address or website address. Please remember that all comments will be moderated by Mrs. Poulin before appearing in the blog.

  • Hello Mrs. Poulin and your class. You all look so happy sitting on all that snow. Did it snow for a very long time? We are a class of Year 1 children in Adelaide South Australia and we are very keen to develop friendships with children around the world. Mrs. Kolenberg has Skype on her computer and would love to be able to use it (she hasn’t used it yet!) Perhaps one day we could chat with you, we’re not sure of the time zone though?!

    • Hello Mrs. Kolenberg and Class,
We are very happy to see your comment here on our blog. Yes it was a very snowy winter but our winter was 6 -8 months ago and those children moved on to Grade 1. After it snows, the plows come into the school yard and push the snow up into tall piles. That clears the blacktop. The children with proper snow gear on, can slide down the hills and roll off at the bottom. There’s a lot of giggling going on and the children get pretty sweaty from all the climbing.
We would love to try Skyping with you but yes the time zone thing is tricky. We are Eastern time zone and that is GMT -5 hours. Let’s see what we can do.

  • Dear Mrs. Poulin and class,
my name is Federica and I am a student of University of Macerata, Italy. I am attending a course of Teconology of teaching and learning (I don’t know if it is the right translation). While I was studing, I knew about your blog and you experience. It is great!

Thank you so much for sharing your great site!

    • Gear Frederica,
Thank you very much for your kind words. I wish you the best of luck in your studies. Learning new things is one of my favorite things to do. As for translations, I use Google Translate and it mixes things up quite often.
